REFRACTIVE ERROR

Refractive error is a problem of focusing of light on retina. The lenght of the eyeball, changes in the shape of the cornea and ageing of the lens can cause refractive error.

MILLIONS ARE FUNCTIONALLY BLIND BECAUSE OF LACK OF ACCESS TO SPECTACLES.

The most common refracive errors are near sightedness or myopia, far sightedness or hypermetropia, astigmatism and presbyopia

The most common symptoms include
1.blurred vision
2.headache
3.eye strain
4.squinting
5.glare

MYOPIA

Myopia is a vision condition in which people can see near objects clearly but objects in far appear blurred.I t appers when eyeball is too long or when the cornea is too steep.
Even though the tendency of myopia is inherited, people spending long time at near work are likely to develop myopia
It may be an early indication of cataract as well.

we will see hypermetropia, astigmatism, and presbyopia in the next post.

Treatment includes spectacles,contact lenses,refractive surgery.
